What do you see in materials? Do they seem passive to you or can they influence their surrounding?
Long-loved chains from the flea market, crown caps, packaging material, stones from trips, dried flowers, but also wires made of brass, silver-plated copper, copper and aluminum are used by Vera creating wide variety of pieces of jewelry. Through jewelry, the incorporation of upcycling, unconventional jewelry material but also conventional „ingredients“ such as pearls, she wants to beautify the everyday life of the people who use them and of those around them through aesthetics. Jewelry has a special character that can perfectly complement that of a person, so a new idea for an individually adapted piece of jewelry can arise at the sight of each person.
In her artistic development, more and more styles are mixed, techniques develop and new elements emerge during the manufacturing processes. Earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets are created primarily from the materials that surround her, which combine beauty and functionality to match a mood, a moment or an environment. City names or other associations identified with the corresponding colors and shapes are often hidden in the names of the pieces of jewelery. Each piece of jewelry is unique with its own story and meaning, which can only be manufactured again on request. The materials are often only available once and their utilization therefore results in special individual pieces.
(Regarding material intolerance: the metal wires for the earring wires are made of stainless steel, brass wire, silver-plated copper wire, copper wire or aluminum wire. Of course, these can also be exchanged for real silver or gold-plated ear wires on request.)
Dorada
Dorada means „golden“ in Spanish. The material gold is typically used in jewelry. Its symbolism and lasting appreciation has a long history, which gives it a unique charisma. But not only pure gold or gold-plated materials, also gold-colored metals such as brass or copper can shine in this valorized light, in a gold-colored tone. The meaning of materials, conventional or unconventional, plays a major role, not only in jewelry, but also in other parts of our lives. We come into contact with them every day and process them into something new. Also in jewelry manufacturing as well as in other handicrafts. These associations and personal memories of the jewelry artist Vera are reflected in the name „doradavera“.
The preferred re-use in Vera’s jewelry production can also be found in the processing, e.g. in goldsmithing, of the traditionally used material gold, from which often old forms are melted and formed into new creations.
Vera
While growing up in Berlin, she discovered her passion for handcrafted jewelery production processes at an early age. Influences of a stay in Chile, traveling and life in Berlin are essential for her inspiration and artistic development. Political perspectives, perceptions of images and smells or interpersonal contacts, especially those with other artistic people, are important. The interplay of these experiences finds expression in her art.
